White Eagle Hall in Jersey CIty: The Wedding of Charlie and Kim

LB

Charlie and Kim had a wonderful wedding and reception at White Eagle Hall in Jersey City, NJ. Kim got ready at Balance Hair Studio, then we met up at their venue for the first look and to enjoy the rest of their day. They are such a sweet couple and we had a ton of fun together!

What were your vows like?

Lighthearted, personal and fun. Some tears, more laughter.

What was your favorite thing about your wedding ceremony?

Kim: Getting to hear Charlie's vows (we wrote them ourselves)
Charlie: The explosion of joy in the room when we were pronounced married!

What advice do you have for other couples in the midst of planning a wedding?

It's never too early to start doing anything. Every time you think it's going to be too early, you forget about it and then it's too late. A day of wedding planner is an absolute necessity or you're going to lose your mind. Do whatever you want as a couple, not what you're expected to do or what other people want you to do.

Do you have any budget tips for other couples?

The last week is going to sneak up on you with last minute costs, so be prepared for that. From the beginning, determine your budget and then that's how much money you have to work with. You're going to be able to have a wedding that you love within that budget, find a way to make it work, and keep a spreadsheet (or two, or three).

What was the best advice you were given?

Make the wedding the wedding YOU want, not what other people expect. You want a skaktail hour, have a skaktail hour (an all ska cocktail hour). If you don't want a wedding party, you don't need a wedding party. Everybody says make sure you take time to have a moment to yourselves, so make sure you have a wedding coordinator you can trust fully.

If you had it to do over again, is there anything you would do differently?

Perhaps budget in a little more time for photos before the ceremony, so choose a different photography package. Eight hours seemed like an infinite amount of time when we chose the package, it really isn't that much time.

What was your favorite moment or part of the reception?

Honestly, the very last song. It was the only time we were in full party mode, it was so cathartic and joyous.

What was your favorite moment from the day?

It sounds cheesy, but everything? It's so hard to pick one moment that stood out from all the others, it really was a perfect day.
